SAILING #ART4GLOBALGOALS

KOBLENZ, GERMANY, 2021

In autumn 2021, the Sailing #Art4GlobalGoals initiative transformed Koblenz into a floatingart space: neo-expressionist Stefan Szczesny presented his 17 large-format sails for the firsttime at the Ludwig Museum – each canvas dedicated to a UN sustainability goal, hand-paintedin bright, expressive imagery. The exhibition, which opened on 25 September 2021, made the2030 Agenda visible and linked art with the themes of people, prosperity, nature, peace and partnership.

The second stage of the accompanying regatta started on the same day: to mark the 75th anniversary of Rhineland-Palatinate, 17 J/70 boats set the painted sails on the Rhine and brought them back to Monheim from Koblenz. The world premiere was not only a visualhighlight, but also a mobile commitment to sustainability – fuelled by wind, water and thejoint commitment of AAP, the YOU Foundation and UNESCO partners.
