About the ASSOCIATION FOR ART IN PUBLIC

The ASSOCIATION FOR ART IN PUBLIC gGmbH, based in Düsseldorf, was founded on the conviction that art is a fundamental force for social renewal. In a world marked by crises, transitions, and emerging interconnections, the organization sees itself as a platform for cultural projects that foster encounter, open spaces for reflection, and offer impulses for a more solidaric future.

At the heart of our work lies the promotion of artistic and cultural initiatives – particularly in public spaces and at the intersections of societal tension. We support the realization of art projects and artistic interventions as well as international exchange between artists and cultural practitioners. Our commitment extends to preserving significant artworks whose existence is under threat and to developing new cultural formats that promote participation and strengthen cultural education.

Rooted in this cultural perspective, we also support initiatives that foster social cohesion, humanity, and resilience – especially in places where people live under precarious conditions. We are active in regions affected by poverty, war, displacement, or natural disasters, by helping to build or restore educational and healthcare facilities, securing access to medical care, offering safe spaces for children, and opening pathways for the future. At the same time, we advocate for the social inclusion of marginalized groups, the protection of children’s rights, the rehabilitation of traumatized individuals, and the implementation of peacebuilding and violence prevention efforts.

We do not consider these areas of action to be separate tasks, but rather interconnected levels of a comprehensive social commitment – one that finds its ethical orientation and imaginative source in art. Our projects are carried out in close cooperation with local partners and are guided by the global Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations‘ 2030 Agenda.

The ASSOCIATION FOR ART IN PUBLIC gGmbH operates on a non-profit and selfless basis. It pursues no commercial interests but understands itself as a cultural link between social realities and artistic imagination – with the goal of actively shaping an open, just, and creative future.
