SAILING #ART4GLOBALGOALS

STEFAN SZCZESNY

Based on the concept of the #Art4GlobalGoals campaign, curator Dirk Geuer, together with partners and artist Stefan Szczesny, developed the idea of a floating exhibition designed to make the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) visible to the public.

Together with the YOU Foundation and the Düsseldorf-based artstar publishing house, Sailing #Art4GlobalGoals draws attention on the water to the 17 Global Goals set by the United Nations. Seventeen sails, hand-painted by Stefan Szczesny, are mounted on J70-class boats to form a sustainable cultural regatta, highlighting the urgent issues of our time.

The 17 works of art were first presented in 2021 along the Rhine promenade in Monheim.

For many years, Düsseldorf-based curator Dirk Geuer has collaborated with various artists to address themes such as sustainability, peace, and education. “Back in times when no engines existed, sailing ships were used to explore the world, transport goods, and even embark on journeys. It is all the more beautiful that we now have an exhibition on the water,” says Geuer.

Since 2017, Dirk Geuer has actively supported the promotion and realization of the Global Goals through the YOU Foundation and the #Art4GlobalGoals campaign. The project is funded and supported by various strong partners in cooperation with the Association for Art in Public gGmbH.
