iD SAIL

MICHAEL PATRICK KELLY

The iD sail is a unique, eight-metre-high piece created by artist Michael Patrick Kelly as a moving manifesto for human rights. He created the work using expressive action painting and then invited children, women and men from all over Germany to round off the sail with their own fingerprints. Each print represents an individual identity; together they form a powerful image of collective responsibility. Under the leitmotif of Human Rights, the guests placed their fingerprints and publicly declared their support for the defence of universal rights.

Curated by the Association for Art in Public (AAP), an exhibition on the theme of ‘Identity & International Understanding’ is being created around the iD sail. Images, films and media installations explore the question of how diversity, tolerance and respect create peace – in Europe and beyond. The project raises awareness of human rights, creates spaces for encounters and calls for donations for humanitarian initiatives.

The project is sponsored by the German Postcode Lottery.
